Bagworms

Yes, these insects are as ugly as they sound. These insects are quickly becoming one of the most destructive insects in the Chicago area. Originally they were only found in southern states but have migrated north into Illinois. The insects are not partial to a specific plant material in that they attack both evergreen and deciduous trees and shrubs. They can defoliate trees and shrubs quickly and can destroy your landscaping in one to two years if left untreated. Each bag can contain anywhere from 300 to 1,000 eggs. In areas of heavy infestation it is recommended to apply 2 treatments of an insecticide spray. The first in early June followed by a second application 2-3 weeks afterwards. The first application in June is typically the most effective due to the larvae are still small and feeding heavily. Acres Group personnel will continue to keep any eye on your property and monitor for bagworms. If we see any of these insects on your site we will be contacting you and sending you a proposal for treatments. If you would like any additional information or have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact your Acres Group representative.
